Tanya Lock was born in New Zealand, in 1964, where her interest in natural history, particularly in birds started. She grew up in a artist's house where she was able to consistently observe the art of Ray Ching, and was thrilled when Ray recently offered to teach her how to paint in oil. She has gone on to paint various animals, but painting birds in water is her favourite.Tanya has a eye for detail and this is seen in her oil paintings.'I love to concentrate on the fine detail in a painting and often start by painting the eye of the animal first. If I can get this correct then I feel as if it's watching me while I bring the rest of it to life. By the end of the painting I really feel close to the animal/bird that I have painted and find it hard to part with this new friend. I try to convey the detail in the animal and the abstract in the background to bring out the detail'. Tanya Lock is a section winner of the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year 2012, in the ‘Frozen Planet' section, and Commended for the ‘Animals in their Environment' section. She made it to the finals of the competition, where 127 paintings were chosen from over 1200, with five paintings in four categories. Her paintings have been accepted in exhibitions including the Bath Artists' exhibition 2011, and 2012, The Royal West of England Academy 2011 and the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, Slimbridge 2012. Tanya is also a member of the Marwell International Wildlife Art Society - MIWAS.
