Born in 1948, Janet is known for her vibrant colourful still life paintings in which she explores objects, fruit and flowers in terms of colour, shapes and patterns. Janet initially studied at Glasgow School of Art in her early teens, before going on to study at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, graduating in 1972. Notable tutors at that time included Alberto Morrocco, David McClure and Jack Knox. In 1974 Janet was awarded a British Council/Yugoslavian Government Postgraduate Scholarship to study painting at Belgrade University for a year. At the end of her studies she took ‘the long road' home to visit Isfahan and Shiraz in Iran, via Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan India and Nepal. The Eastern style of art and ceramic objects in these countries had a lasting influence on her work. In 1978 Janet moved to London, arriving at a time when the ‘East End' - with its affordable housing and studios - provided a haven for artists. Janet has had a number of successful solo shows in London. She has also exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters and Federation of British Artists. Janet is an artist member of Paisley Art Institute and the Royal Glasgow Institute and has exhibited in their annual exhibitions. Her work is in the collection of Dundee University, and in corporate and private collections in the UK, USA and Europe.
