IAN MacCULLOCH

Born in 1973, Ian studied at Northampton School of Art and the University of Northampton.  He works in a wide variety of media, but print-making is his main vehicle of expression.  His choice of subject varies from wildlife to landscape, but a recurring theme in his work is the quality of light and texture.

‘Much of my work is concerned with the representation of the English landscape in all its diversity.  As a subject I find trees particularly interesting.  The landscape etchings are mainly concerned with the atmospheric qualities of light, especially at dusk and sunrise.  The light at this time of day is often evocative and revealing in the way texture, pattern and colour are enhanced.  For that reason, rather than print in a single colour I prefer to ink up on the plate (a la poupee) and experiment with atmosphere and mood. Consequently to some degree each print is unique.’

Ian has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition several times and at the Royal Watercolour Society.  His work has been shown in mixed and one man exhibitions throughout the UK and can also be seen in many public and private collections.
